Why do we take Holy Communion?

Why do we partake in the Holy Communion?

We take Holy Communion, so that our sins can be forgiven and we can live a righteous and holy life. Jesus said unless you eat my body and drink my blood, you cannot have eternal life.

Luke 22:19 says,
And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

So it is very important for us as disciples of Jesus that we take Holy Communion. But when we take Holy Communion we come before Jesus with a thankful heart and just thank him for dying for us on the cross.

But whoever eats the body of Jesus and drinks his blood in a unworthy manner, is guilty of sin.

1 Corinthians 11:29 says

Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

So it is very important for us as we take Holy Communion, we understand the value and worth of what Jesus did for us, and not just eat this bread and drink the wine. It's not just wine and bread, it's Jesus body, so we should not take the Holy Communion lightly, but with a sincere, thankful heart.
